Since moving to Albuquerque, I associate Sandhill cranes with the winter holidays as much as I do sparkly lights and candles in paper bags filled with sand. They are all on my list of favorite things.

Angel Room
This house has been in the Sanchez family for several generations, and their christmas displays grow every year, both inside and out, as does their generosity as they invite all who pass by in for a bit of Christmas cheer.

Albuquerque Motorcycle Club
The former Albuquerque Motorcycle Club was built in 1938-1940. This SW Vernacular style house has a unique volcanic stone facade with vigas in front. The stone is purported to be from the volcanoes on the west mesa. The clubhouse was equipped with a nickolodeon and an oak dance floor.
A walk on the Westside of the Rio in Albuquerque, following a walking guide put out by WALK Albuquerque and the Albuquerque Alliance for Active Living. The Pat Hurley neighborhood was once part of the village of Atrisco, founded in 1700, before Albuquerque.

In Celebration of Cottonwoods
I have been thinking a lot about the beautiful old cottonwoods in the ditch near my home. They won't be around much longer. This cottonwood likely had its beginning 60 years ago, the last time the Rio Grande Valley flooded. Not likely to be happening again anytime soon. Not that I want my home to be flooded, but when I'm seeing all that cottonwood fluff flying these days, I'm feeling a little sad that all this reproductive effort will come to nothing.

Hyde Park
I think that this is the body of water called "The Long Water." Someone who knows the area better can correct me. We stayed near Hyde Park on Sussex Gardens, and walked here the first day to keep ourselves awake after our time zone travel.

Garden in Montparnasse
While I'm sure the public gardens are prettier in the Spring, I still was taken with them. This one near the catacombs in Montparnasse was my favorite.
